 Artist Statement

I am intrigued with the concept of investigation through painting, realizing that ambiguity is often the end result of the search. Through my intuitive

process, I find that painting merges the physical, the emotional, and the spiritual. My work is derived from personal inquisition but acts as a vehicle that

seeks to pose new questions to others.  By avoiding absolute references to the real, my paintings seek to ignite further contemplation and the

engagement of the viewer in their own reflection.

My work is particularly concerned with energy and its many connotations. I find there are parallels between different energy forms that can link, for

example, the geological to the biological. In my vision of energy we can transcend our limited understanding and equate the softness of a leaf unfurling

with the same violence as that of a wave crashing on a shore. Since nature provides many visual examples of energy, my work often refers to natural

phenomenon. The references to nature are then confused by the use of an unnatural palette. By combining bold colors and reinvented imagery, the

paintings create new energies, environments, and organisms which function as reconstructions of the real.
